Coach Julieta Nuñez

(Water World Swim Coach)

Water World Swim, International Division, proudly introduces to all our open water swimmers around the world, our new representative in Chile, Coach Julieta Nuñez.

Coach Nuñez is an avid open water swimmer born and raised right next to the Pacific Ocean in Chile, South America. She comes from a family of sailors and navy people who by tradition introduced her to open water swimming at a very early age. She is one of the most advanced students of world renowned Chilean coach Victor “Tiburon” Contreras who prepared her for the most challenging swims in Chile. Coach Nuñez has competed in and won many open water swim competitions in Chile and other Latin American countries.

Together with other swimmers, Coach Nuñez recently founded the first official, legally incorporated open water swim club in Chile, named, “ FullMar-Viña, with the legal backing of the Chilean Navy (Armada de Chile), supporting open water swim events.

Among her greatest successes as an open water swimmer, Coach Nuñez crossed the Straits of Magellan in 2007, as well as the Beagle Canal from Chile to Argentina. This year, in 2009, she again crossed the Straits of Magellan, making her the first person in the world to cross it two times.

Coach Julieta Nuñez has travelled to places all around the world to compete. She has twice completed the most storied swim in San Francisco Bay, from Alcatraz Island to the San Francisco shore. Because of her success in these events and her solid experience in open water swims in Chile and elsewhere, Water World Swim Coach and Swim Director Pedro Ordenes has offered to become the Coach and Coordinator for some open water swims in Chile. With her representation, Water World Swim of San Francisco will have the opportunity to offer many swimmers from around the world the chance to swim in some of the most challenging and spectacular swims in the world.

Having lived part of her life in Wiesbaden, Germany, Coach Nuñez is trilingual, fluent not only in Spanish and English, but in German as well.
