The 4th Winter Alcatraz Swim 2011

JANUARY 2nd 2011- 8:00 a.m.

Last January 2nd, 2010, twenty three brave swimmers took the most challenging test of endurance by successfully swimming from Alcatraz in the winter freezing waters of the Bay of San Francisco, on our third official winter swim Alcatraz, open to all those hardcore swimmers that take this kind of challenge.

Water World Swim presents: THE FOURTH WINTER ALCATRAZ NON- COMPETITIVE  BUT THE MOST CHALLENGING SWIM. On the morning of our event it may be that the conditions are ideal for this crossing with perfect visibility and calm tides or it may be that we encounter stormy seas and high winds. Either way this swim it is a challenging event with the water temps in the low 50’s or high 40's. All participants must have successfully completed an Alcatraz crossing in 2009 or 2010 to be accepted. Swimmers are strongly recommended to continue their open-water training through December of this year. Extensive open-water swimming experience is mandatory. Swimmers that have competed in the Bridge to Bridge race, the Swim Around the Rock or the Touch and Go are encouraged to register for this event. Make this race your first goal for 2011, the start of a new decade of swimming. Do you accept the challenge?
